Grounds Maintenance in Torrance

Torrance Community Council has recently raised concerns with East Dunbartonshire Council (EDC) about the reduction in grass cutting, verge, and hedgerow maintenance across our village.

EDC has now responded, confirming the following:

  • Grass cutting – Up to 12 cuts per growing season, depending on staff/machine availability. Grass cuttings are not collected but left to break down naturally.
  • Verges – Cut twice a year (Spring and late Summer) by external contractors.
  • Hedges – Cut once a year (after bird nesting season, starting 1st September).
  • Street sweeping – Carried out monthly or as required, with extra sweeping in autumn. Larger sweepers hired once or twice per year.
  • Weed management
    • Japanese Knotweed treated twice a year on council land.
    • Streets/paths sprayed twice a year (late Spring and late Summer).
    • Roads sprayed once a year (mid-Summer).
    • Waterways are not maintained/sprayed by EDC.
  • Future standards – EDC says they will continue with the above schedule. Residents should report specific issues through EDC Customer Services.
