The Community Council established two sub groups in 2025 with a key focus on priorities.
Members of the Community council and wider Village are involved in these
The Events Sub group and the Paths and Spaces sub group
Sub group of the Community Council made up of members from the Community who are interested in helping with planning ,actioning and helping at Community Events over the year.
Aim
- Plan and action annual fixed events as per Annual events Calendar
- Find ways to enhance and grow current events for the benefit of the Village
- Find ways and help get Community Council Income to grow events
- Think of events that bring notice to Torrance and support local Businesses.
- Identify Income generation opportunities to fund ongoing Community Council activities.
- Identify additional events and activities that will enhance the experiences and benefit the well being of the wider Community.
Ideas for 2025/26
- Enhance and increase Community Council involvement in Campsie show and grow current Gala activities- for example a festival weekend
- Grow current Christmas Lights event in conjunction with Tractor run – weekend winter festival
- Farmers Market Launched
Paths and Spaces Steering Group
Sub Group of the Community Council with members from the Community with and Interest in our paths, trails and Community spaces
Paths and Trails – Core paths Network and walking paths surrounding and through the Village.
Community Spaces– Large and small – flower beds, Village entry points , Demonstration Garden, Parks and open areas such as West Balgroghan Marsh.
Aim
- To bring together existing groups and wider community to encourage a greener and tidier village.
- Identify Funding opportunities for projects that can be used to enhance our Village
- Encourage more of the community to use and become involved in maintaining and creating open spaces for the enjoyment of all
- Identify and engage with Landowners with regard to Rights of Way and improvement of footpath and walking routes.
- Identify issues with footpaths and rights of way raising with Local Authority and Landowners.
- Identify areas that members of the community / Torrance Greenspace group / Friends of Woodmill Park already work on.
- Work with East Dunbartonshire Greenspace and Streetscene on how projects are identified for rewilding.
- Identify areas for special interest and projects in particular where areas are neglected or not at full potential especially Demonstration Garden and West Balgrochan Marsh
- Investigate if Torrance in Bloom appeals to the village.
- Involve and support local Businesses to enhance spaces around shops and buildings.
What we achieved in 2025
- Identified Key priorities for work- Ornamental Gardens, Village Square Planters renewal, identified areas of concern on main footpaths
- Met as a group to agree these and plan a way forward
- Identified funding pots
- Village Spring Clean for second year

- Deliver a range of activities and events that engage our Community for the wider good and help the Community Council to understand what is important and plan what our Village wants
- Think of events that raise the profile and bring notice to Torrance as a Village community and support local Businesses.
- Identify Income generation opportunities to fund ongoing Community Council activities.
- Identify additional events and activities that will enhance the experiences and benefit the well being of the wider Community.
What we achieved in 2025
- Enhanced and increased Community Council involvement in Campsie show, in 2026 we want to increase our Gala festivities
- We want to Grow current Christmas Lights event in conjunction with Tractor run and celebrate a weekend fiesta
- The Torrance Farmers Market will launch in July
